Shipley Lofts Wilmington, DE

Shipley Lofts is a joint venture between Shipley Village Community Development Center and MBI Development Company. The building, located at 701 Shipley Street, in downtown Wilmington, DE is a mixed income development designed to cater to the needs of local artists and art professionals. Originally constructed as the Ford and Massey Furniture Factory, the abandoned building is being transformed into the first live-work space with artist preferences in Delaware. Shipley Lofts is designed with the artist in mind. There are 23 units on five floors. All units will be one bedroom residences with open floor plans. Residents can utilize the open floor plans to create a live-work environment. Shipley Lofts residents will each have individual storage spaces located in the basement of the building. Display space is prominent on each floor with a master gallery on the first floor. The display areas will be utilized by the residents to define the building’s space as well as a place to showcase their work and host events. The historic building is being renovated with the intricate architectural details refurbished and enhanced during the rehabilitation. Six units are held affordable for households earning less than 50% of the area median income, twelve units are held affordable for households earning less than 60% of the area median income, and five units are available to market rate households.
